Bautz'ner is an iconic German brand of mustard that originated in the town of Bautzen, Saxony. It gained legendary status as one of the most popular condiments in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and successfully transitioned into a nationwide favorite after the reunification of Germany. Known primarily for its 'mittelscharf' (medium-hot) variety, the brand is celebrated for its traditional recipe and cultural heritage.
While the brand holds deep roots in eastern Germany, it was acquired in 1992 by the family-owned Bavarian company Develey Senf & Feinkost. Despite change in ownership, production primarily remains in Bautzen, maintaining the local economic connection and authentic flavor profile that consumers have trusted for decades.
