Ichnusa is an iconic Italian beer brand with a heritage deeply rooted in the island of Sardinia. Founded in 1912 in the city of Cagliari by Giovanni Giorgetti and later developed by the wine entrepreneur Amsicora Capra, the beer takes its name from the ancient Greek word for Sardinia, 'Ichnûsa,' meaning footprint. This name refers to the island's unique shape in the Mediterranean Sea.

While the brand has grown to become a national symbol of Italian brewing excellence, it remains strictly connected to its geographic origin. To this day, the beer is produced exclusively at the Ichnusa brewery in Assemini, located just outside the Sardinian capital of Cagliari. The brewery is famous for being one of the first in Italy to implement vertical cone fermentation tanks in the 1960s.

Since 1986, the brand has been under the ownership of the Dutch multinational Heineken N.V. Through its local subsidiary, Heineken Italia S.p.A., the company has modernized the facilities and expanded distribution worldwide. Despite this international ownership, Ichnusa maintains its 'Sardinian Soul,' prominently featuring the 'Four Moors' flag (the symbol of Sardinia) on its labeling and continuing to brew exclusively on the island to ensure authenticity.
