Fritz-kola is a cult-favorite German soft drink brand founded in 2002 by childhood friends Mirco Wolf Wiegert and Lorenz Hampl in Hamburg. Born from a desire to create a superior alternative to mass-market colas, the founders developed a recipe characterized by significantly higher caffeine levels (25mg per 100ml) and a distinct hint of lemon. The brand is famous for its minimalist black-and-white aesthetic, which originally featured the founders' faces on the label to save on design costs.
Today, Fritz-kola remains a fiercely independent entity and a vocal advocate for sustainability. It exclusively uses reusable glass bottles and has established a decentralized production network to minimize its carbon footprint. While its heart remains in Northern Germany, where the majority of its five contract bottling plants are located (including sites in Wagenfeld, Güstrow, and Bamberg), the company expanded its manufacturing footprint to Belgium in early 2025 to support its growing presence in the Low Countries. As of 2026, the company continues to be led by co-founder Mirco Wiegert, who retains majority ownership and remains committed to the brand's rebellious, independent spirit.
