CamelBak is a pioneering brand in the hydration industry, famously born out of necessity in 1989. The brand's origin story began when founder Michael Eidson, an EMT and cyclist, created a makeshift hydration system using an IV bag and a tube sock during a grueling 100-mile bike race in Texas. This invention led to the creation of the hands-free hydration category, which has since expanded from military-grade reservoirs to a wide variety of high-performance water bottles like the one pictured.

While the brand maintains its design and testing headquarters in the United States, its manufacturing footprint is global. Most of its non-disposable plastic and stainless steel water bottles are produced in ISO-certified facilities in China and Mexico to balance scale and technical precision, though select tactical and specialized equipment continues to be manufactured in the USA.

Ownership of the brand has transitioned through several private equity firms before being acquired by Vista Outdoor Inc. in 2015. As of 2024 and beyond, CamelBak is a core brand under Revelyst, Inc., a standalone company spun off from Vista Outdoor to focus exclusively on outdoor products and precision sports gear. Revelyst is headquartered in the United States and oversees CamelBak's global distribution and continued innovation in sustainable materials like Tritan Renew.
