J&B Rare Blended Scotch Whisky

J&B Rare is one of the world's most recognizable Scotch whiskies, famous for its iconic yellow label and distinctive red lettering. The brand's history dates back to 1749 when Giacomo Justerini, an Italian who moved to London, founded a wine and spirit merchant business. The "B" in J&B represents Alfred Brooks, who purchased the firm in the 19th century and renamed it Justerini & Brooks.

Specifically designed for the American market during the Prohibition era, the 'Rare' blend was created to be a lighter-bodied, more mixable whisky. It is traditionally crafted using a blend of 42 single malt and grain whiskies, primarily from the Speyside region of Scotland. To maintain the 'Scotch Whisky' designation, all production, maturation, and blending occur within Scotland.

Today, J&B is part of the extensive portfolio of Diageo, the world's largest producer of spirits. Diageo was formed through the merger of Grand Metropolitan (which had previously acquired J&B) and Guinness in 1997. The brand continues to be a global leader in the blended Scotch category, managed from Diageo's global headquarters in London.
