Tyskie is one of Poland's most iconic beer brands, with a brewing heritage that dates back to 1629 in the Upper Silesian town of Tychy. Originally established as a princely brewery (Tyskie Browary Książęce), it has become a symbol of Polish brewing excellence over the course of nearly four centuries. The brand is particularly well-known for its flagship 'Gronie' pale lager, which has received numerous international accolades, including twice winning the Grand Prix at the Brewing Industry International Awards.
Today, Tyskie is manufactured primarily at its historic home in Tychy by Kompania Piwowarska, Poland's largest brewing group. To meet international demand, some production also takes place in other locations; for instance, certain stock for the United Kingdom market has been brewed at the Grolsch brewery in the Netherlands. This dual-location model ensures the brand maintains its massive export presence across Europe and North America.
Following a series of major industry shifts, Tyskie transitioned from the ownership of SABMiller to Asahi Group Holdings in 2017. Asahi, a Japanese multinational, acquired the brand alongside other Central and Eastern European assets from Anheuser-Busch InBev. Under Asahi's stewardship, Tyskie continues to be marketed as a premium representative of European beer culture, blending historical Polish tradition with modern global distribution networks.
