Rügenwalder Mühle is one of Germany's most historic and recognizable food brands, best known for its traditional Teewurst (tea sausage) and spreadable meat products. The brand's history dates back to 1834 in Rügenwalde (now Darłowo, Poland), where Carl Müller established a butcher shop. Following World War II and the displacement from Rügenwalde, the family restarted the business in Bad Zwischenahn, Lower Saxony, which remains the company's headquarters today.

Historically a family-run enterprise under the name Rügenwalder Mühle Carl Müller GmbH & Co. KG, the brand achieved significant market shifts in the 21st century by becoming a leader in plant-based meat alternatives. In a major corporate transition announced in late 2023 and finalized in 2024, the German family-owned conglomerate Pfeifer & Langen acquired a majority stake in the company. This acquisition places Rügenwalder under the same corporate umbrella as other major food brands like Intersnack (Funny-Frisch). Today, while the traditional meat products continue to be produced in Germany, the brand is at the forefront of the protein transition in the European market.
