Pink Lady is not simply an apple variety but one of the world's most successful fruit brands. The brand originated in Australia in the 1970s when horticulturalist John Cripps cross-bred the Golden Delicious and Lady Williams varieties to create the 'Cripps Pink' cultivar.

Today, the Pink Lady trademark is owned by Apple and Pear Australia Limited (APAL) globally, except in the United States and Mexico, where it is owned by Brandt's Fruit Trees. The brand functions through a rigorous licensing model where only apples that meet strict quality standards for color, sugar content, and firmness can carry the heart-shaped logo. These apples are grown in numerous countries including Australia, France, Spain, Italy, the United States, Chile, and South Africa to ensure year-round availability in over 120 countries.
