Scotch & Soda is a prominent Dutch fashion brand founded in Amsterdam in 1985 by Laurent Hompes. Initially started as a menswear wholesale label, the brand gained international acclaim for its eclectic, detail-oriented designs and its 'Amsterdam Blauw' denim line. The brand's aesthetic is heavily influenced by the creative energy and free-spirited nature of its home city, blending classic styles with bold colors and unique textures.
While the brand's creative heart remains in Amsterdam, its manufacturing is distributed globally to maintain a vast international supply chain. The company primarily produces its garments in approximately 12 countries, with major manufacturing hubs located in China, India, and Turkey. This global production model allows the brand to scale its diverse collections across menswear, womenswear, and children's fashion while sourcing specific expertise for different fabric types and tailoring needs.
In recent years, the brand has undergone significant ownership changes. After being owned by Sun Capital Partners and Kellwood for over a decade, the brand filed for bankruptcy in early 2023. It was subsequently acquired by Bluestar Alliance, a New York-based brand management firm. Despite some regional restructuring, including bankruptcy filings for European retail divisions in 2024, the brand continues to expand globally under Bluestar Alliance's leadership, maintaining its Dutch heritage while leveraging American management and investment.
