Hertog Jan beer

Hertog Jan is a prestigious Dutch beer brand steeped in history and regional tradition. The brand's origins date back to 1915 when four brewers founded a steam beer brewery named 'De Vriendschap' (The Friendship) in the village of Arcen, Limburg. It was eventually renamed Hertog Jan in 1998, honoring John I, Duke of Brabant, a 13th-century ruler famously known for his love of beer and celebration of quality brewing.

While the brand maintains its traditional brewing heart at the Hertog Jan Brewery in Arcen, where specialty beers like Grand Prestige are matured in dedicated cellars, it has been part of a larger corporate structure for decades. In 1995, it was acquired by Interbrew, which through a series of global mergers became Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev).

Today, Hertog Jan is positioned as a premium brand within the AB InBev portfolio. It is primarily produced at the original brewery in Arcen, though high-volume pilsner production may utilize fellow AB InBev facilities in the Netherlands to meet national demand. The brand remains a symbol of Dutch craft heritage combined with the distribution power of the world's largest brewing company.
