Algida is one of the world's most recognizable ice cream brands, though it is famous for operating under different names globally as part of the 'Heartbrand' family. Founded in Rome, Italy, in 1946 by Italo Barbiani and Alfredo Vieni, the brand initially gained popularity in the Italian market before being acquired by the multinational Unilever in 1966.

Today, Algida is produced in numerous locations worldwide to serve regional markets. Significant manufacturing facilities are located in Caivano, Italy (one of the largest ice cream factories globally), and across Turkey (notably in Çorlu and Konya). As of late 2025, following a strategic demerger, the brand is owned by The Magnum Ice Cream Company (TMICC), a stand-alone entity spun off from Unilever to focus exclusively on the global ice cream market.
