Giant Bicycles, officially known as the Giant Group, is a premier global cycling brand with a long-standing history rooted in Taiwan. Founded in 1972 by King Liu in Taichung, the company began as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), producing bikes for major American labels like Schwinn. This heritage of technical excellence led Giant to launch its own brand in 1981, quickly becoming one of the world's largest and most respected bicycle producers.
Giant's manufacturing operations are truly international, reflecting its status as a global leader. While a significant portion of production still takes place in Taiwan—particularly for its high-end carbon fiber frames and technical components—the company also operates large-scale factories in China, the Netherlands, and Hungary to serve regional markets efficiently. New facilities in Vietnam have also been developed to further expand their production capacity.
The brand remains a publicly traded company on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, headquartered in Taichung City. Under the Giant Group umbrella, the company also manages other prominent sub-brands like Liv (dedicated to women's cycling), Momentum (lifestyle/urban cycling), and CADEX (high-performance components). Their commitment to research and development has made them pioneers in materials technology, notably mass-producing the first carbon fiber road bikes in the late 1980s.
