Maldon Sea Salt is one of the world's most famous culinary salts, celebrated for its unique pyramid-shaped crystals and clean, fresh flavor. The brand's history is deeply rooted in the town of Maldon, Essex, England, where salt has been harvested for nearly a thousand years. The modern Maldon Salt Company was established in 1882 by James Osborne and has remained a family-run business for four generations.

The salt is harvested from the Blackwater Estuary using traditional methods that involve evaporating seawater in large metal pans. This artisanal process, which relies on the precise management of temperature and timing, ensures that the crystals retain their signature texture. Because of this localized harvesting requirement, all authentic Maldon Sea Salt is produced exclusively in the United Kingdom.

Today, the company is led by Steve Osborne, the great-grandson of the founder. Despite its global reach—exporting to over 50 countries and being a staple in professional kitchens worldwide—the brand remains independent and family-owned. It holds a Royal Warrant as official purveyors of sea salt, a testament to its long-standing quality and heritage.
