Barilla is the world's leading pasta manufacturer, an iconic brand that resonates with Italian culinary tradition. Founded in 1877 as a small bread and pasta shop in Parma, Italy, the brand has grown into a global powerhouse while maintaining its identity as a family-owned enterprise.
While the heart of production remains in Italy, Barilla has significantly expanded its manufacturing footprint. It operates multiple facilities globally, including large-scale production plants in the United States (notably in Iowa and New York) to serve the North American market efficiently using local durum wheat. This dual-presence allows the brand to maintain its 'Italian soul' while fulfilling massive international demand.
Ownership of the brand has remained remarkably consistent. Apart from a brief period in the 1970s when it was owned by an American conglomerate, the company was bought back and is currently overseen by the fourth generation of the Barilla family. Today, the Barilla Group remains one of the largest family-owned food companies in the world, headquartered in Parma.
