Ritter Sport is an iconic German chocolate brand famous for its unique square shape and vibrant color-coded packaging. The brand originated in Waldenbuch, Germany, when Clara Ritter suggested creating a chocolate bar that could fit into a sport jacket pocket without breaking, yet weigh the same as a traditional rectangular bar. This 'Ritter's Sport Chocolate' was launched in 1932 and has since become a global favorite.
The product shown is from the Nut Selection line, specifically the Whole Hazelnuts variety, which features hand-picked roasted hazelnuts from Turkey embedded in milk chocolate. Ritter Sport is known for its commitment to sustainability, being the first major chocolate bar manufacturer to source 100% certified sustainable cocoa for its entire range.
The brand remains family-owned to this day, managed by Alfred Theodor Ritter and Marli Hoppe-Ritter, the grandchildren of the founders. While the main production facility remains in Waldenbuch, Germany, the company also operates a production site in Breitenbrunn, Austria, to meet international demand.
