Ptasie Mleczko®, meaning 'bird's milk' in Polish, is a renowned confectionery product consisting of soft, creamy marshmallow centers enrobed in rich chocolate. Created in 1936 by Jan Wedel, the product has become an iconic treat in Poland and beyond. The name 'Ptasie Mleczko' is inspired by a Slavic myth that birds' milk is a rare and exquisite delicacy. The marshmallow centers are made using agar, a natural gelling agent derived from seaweed, and are coated with chocolate made from carefully selected cocoa beans from Ghana, known for their deep, distinctive flavor. Over the years, the product line has expanded to include various flavors such as vanilla, cream, lemon, chocolate, and caramel, catering to diverse tastes. In 2014, the name 'Ptasie Mleczko' was officially registered, granting exclusive rights to E.Wedel for its use. Today, Ptasie Mleczko® is produced primarily in Poland, with some variations produced in other locations, and is owned by LOTTE Wedel Sp. z o.o., a subsidiary of the South Korean conglomerate LOTTE Corporation.
