Seiko is a legendary name in the world of horology, originating from a watch and jewelry shop founded by Kintarō Hattori in 1881 in Ginza, Tokyo. The brand is synonymous with Japanese precision and is globally recognized for pioneering the world's first commercial quartz wristwatch, the Astron, in 1969.

Today, Seiko's manufacturing is a sophisticated global operation. High-end and luxury collections, such as Grand Seiko, Credor, and premium Prospex models, are meticulously handcrafted in Japan at specialized studios like the Shizukuishi Watch Studio in Iwate and the Shinshu Watch Studio in Nagano. For its entry-level and mid-range collections, Seiko utilizes production facilities in Malaysia and China, and movement assembly plants in Singapore. This multi-country strategy allows the brand to maintain its reputation for reliability while offering timepieces across various price points.

Ownership of the brand resides within the Seiko Group Corporation (formerly Seiko Holdings Corporation). While the group operates as a holding entity, the watch business itself is managed by Seiko Watch Corporation. Interestingly, while Seiko Epson Corporation (Epson) was originally part of the internal factory structure (as Suwa Seikosha), it now operates as an independent publicly traded company that continues to develop and manufacture specific high-tier movements and watches for the Seiko brand.
