Pier 1 Imports, established in 1962 as Cost Plus Imports in San Mateo, California, began as a single store offering imported home furnishings and decor. The company expanded rapidly, reaching over 1,000 physical stores across the United States and Canada by January 2020. In February 2020, Pier 1 filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, leading to the closure of all its physical stores by May 2020. In July 2020, Retail Ecommerce Ventures (REV), a Miami-based investment firm, acquired Pier 1's intellectual property and e-commerce assets for $31 million, relaunching the brand as an online-only retailer. In May 2024, REV sold Pier 1's assets to Omni Retail Enterprises, a diversified e-commerce company, which now manages the Pier1.com brand. Pier 1's products are sourced from various countries, including India and Indonesia, through partnerships with multiple suppliers. The brand continues to offer a curated selection of home furnishings and accessories, maintaining its legacy as a provider of unique and eclectic home decor items.
