Ribena is a British brand of blackcurrant-based soft drinks and fruit drink concentrates, introduced in 1938 by H.W. Carter & Co. The brand gained prominence during World War II when it was distributed to children as a vitamin C supplement. In 1955, Beecham, a company that became part of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in 2000, acquired Ribena and expanded its product range. In 2013, GSK sold Ribena, along with Lucozade, to the Japanese beverage conglomerate Suntory for £1.35 billion. Suntory Holdings Limited, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, is the current owner of the Ribena brand. Ribena is primarily manufactured in the United Kingdom, where it sources 90% of Britain's blackcurrant crop, but production also occurs in other locations. The brand offers a variety of flavors, including blackcurrant, strawberry, pineapple & passion fruit, and low-calorie options, and is known for its commitment to sustainability, using 100% recycled plastic bottles and recyclable paper straws.
