McVitie's Digestive biscuits are a classic British snack, first developed in 1839 by two Scottish doctors to aid digestion. The name 'digestive' was inspired by the belief that the inclusion of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) in the recipe provided antacid properties. The biscuits are made from a blend of wheat and wholemeal flours, offering a slightly sweet and crumbly texture. McVitie & Price, the original company behind the brand, was established in 1830 in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 2000, McVitie's became part of United Biscuits, a UK-based company. In 2016, United Biscuits was acquired by Yıldız Holding, a Turkish multinational food company, and its subsidiary Pladis Global was formed to manage the brand. Today, McVitie's Digestive biscuits are produced primarily in the United Kingdom, with manufacturing facilities also in other countries to meet global demand. The biscuits are enjoyed worldwide, often paired with tea or used as a base for desserts like cheesecakes.
