The Rubik's Cube is a world-famous 3D combination puzzle invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik. Originally called the Magic Cube, it was licensed to the Ideal Toy Corp in 1980 and became an international sensation. It is widely considered to be the world's best-selling toy.
While originally manufactured in Hungary, production moved global as demand exploded. In late 2020, the Canadian toy and entertainment company Spin Master acquired Rubik's Brand Ltd for $50 million, adding the iconic puzzle to its portfolio of entertainment brands. Today, the products are manufactured in multiple locations, primarily in China, to supply global retail markets.
