Cholula Hot Sauce is a renowned Mexican brand of chili-based hot sauce, celebrated for its balanced flavor profile and distinctive wooden cap. The brand traces its origins to a 100-year-old family recipe developed by the Harrison family in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico. Initially, the sauce was primarily used as an ingredient in sangrita, a traditional Mexican beverage. In 1989, Cholula was introduced to the United States market in Austin, Texas, and quickly gained popularity across North America. Over the years, the brand expanded its presence, becoming a staple in households and restaurants. In December 2018, private equity firm L Catterton acquired Cholula, and in November 2020, McCormick & Company, a global leader in the spice industry, acquired Cholula from L Catterton. Despite these changes in ownership, the production of Cholula Hot Sauce remains in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico, preserving its authentic heritage and traditional manufacturing methods.
