Aguardiente Antioqueño is a traditional Colombian spirit produced by the Fábrica de Licores de Antioquia (FLA). This clear distilled beverage is renowned for its distinctive aniseed flavor, which is achieved through a meticulous production process involving sugarcane, molasses, and honey. The FLA, a state-owned company based in Colombia, is responsible for producing and distributing this iconic spirit. Aguardiente Antioqueño is available in three variants: Tapa Roja (29% ABV), Tapa Azul (29% ABV, sugar-free), and Tapa Verde (24% ABV, a milder version). While primarily produced in Colombia, the FLA has also established production facilities in Bolivia to economize production costs. The brand is deeply embedded in Colombian culture, especially in the Antioquia region, and is a staple in regional festivals and gatherings. Internationally, Aguardiente Antioqueño is exported to countries such as Canada, Spain, the United States, Mexico, and the United Kingdom, available in glass or plastic bottles and even Tetra Paks. The FLA also produces other beverages like rum, vodka, gin, coffee cream, and mint cream, but Aguardiente Antioqueño remains its flagship product. In recent years, the FLA has been expanding its market reach, especially following the 2025 decision by the Colombian Constitutional Court to eliminate the departmental monopoly on aguardiente commercialization, allowing for broader distribution across the country. This move has opened new opportunities for the FLA to strengthen its presence in both domestic and international markets.
