Freixenet is a renowned Spanish producer of cava and other sparkling wines, established in 1914 in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, Barcelona. The company was founded through the union of two wine-producing families: the Ferrer family, owners of La Freixeneda since the 12th century, and the Sala family, founders of Casa Sala in 1861. This collaboration laid the foundation for Freixenet's production of cava under its own brand. Over the years, Freixenet has expanded its portfolio to include various sparkling and still wines, such as Prosecco, produced in Italy's Veneto region. In 2018, Freixenet was acquired by the German company Henkell & Co. Sektkellerei, a leading producer of sparkling wines, headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany. This acquisition has further solidified Freixenet's position in the global wine industry, allowing it to leverage Henkell's extensive distribution network and expertise in sparkling wine production.
