The Tofoo Co. is a UK-based company specializing in plant-based protein products, primarily tofu. Founded in 2016 by David Knibbs and Lydia Smith, the company has grown to hold over 60% of the UK's tofu market share. In August 2024, Comitis Capital, a German investment firm, acquired The Tofoo Co. to support its expansion in the plant-based food sector. Despite the acquisition, Knibbs and Smith remain involved in the company's operations, continuing to guide its growth in both UK and international markets. The Tofoo Co. produces its tofu products in the United Kingdom, sourcing soybeans primarily from Canada. The company emphasizes sustainability by using organic, GM-free soybeans and follows a traditional Japanese recipe to create its extra firm tofu. The brand has expanded its product range to include other plant-based meat alternatives such as tempeh and seitan, and has partnered with foodservice channels, including the Wagamama restaurant chain, to broaden its market presence.
