Marabou Chocolate Bar

Marabou is one of Sweden's most iconic chocolate brands, founded in 1916 by the Norwegian chocolatier Johan Throne Holst. The brand was established as a Swedish counterpart to the Norwegian Freia brand, which Holst also owned. Since its inception, Marabou has been deeply integrated into Swedish culture, particularly known for its 'M' logo and signature cocoa taste. The production is primarily centered at the chocolate factory in Upplands Väsby, Sweden, although various formats may be produced in other European facilities depending on international distribution. Ownership has shifted over the decades from the founding family to international food conglomerates. In 1993, Kraft Foods (later split into Mondelez International) acquired the brand. Today, Marabou is owned by Mondelez International, an American multinational with a vast portfolio of global snacking brands. Despite this American ownership, Marabou maintains its distinct Swedish heritage and remains a household name in Northern Europe.
