Royal Baking Powder is a well-known brand of baking powder that originated in the United States in 1866. Founded by brothers Joseph and Cornelius Hoagland, the Royal Baking Powder Company became one of the largest producers of baking powder in the country. Over the years, the company expanded its product line to include gelatin and pudding mixes, becoming a significant player in the packaged foods industry. In 1929, Royal Baking Powder Company merged with four other companies, including the Fleischmann's Yeast Company, to form Standard Brands, which was the second-largest packaged foods company in America at that time. Through further mergers, Standard Brands became part of Nabisco in 1981. In 2012, Nabisco, along with other brands, was acquired by Mondelez International, a multinational confectionery, food, and beverage company headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. Today, Royal Baking Powder is produced in multiple countries, including the United States, Spain, and South Africa, and is widely used in baking to achieve light and fluffy textures in various baked goods.
