Bell's Original Blended Scotch Whisky

Bell's Original is one of the United Kingdom's most iconic and best-selling blended Scotch whiskies, with a history tracing back to 1825. Originally established by Thomas Sandeman in Perthshire, Scotland, the business was later shaped by Arthur Bell, who joined in 1845 and became a full partner in 1851. Arthur Bell was a pioneer in advocating for blended whiskies, believing that marrying various fine malts together created a more consistent and pleasing flavor than a single unmixed whisky. Although a deeply religious man who initially resisted naming the product after himself, the 'Arthur Bell & Sons' name was eventually registered in 1896 by his sons.

The production of Bell's is centered at the Blair Athol distillery in Pitlochry, which serves as the 'heart' of the blend. The final product is a complex mixture of up to 40 different grain and malt whiskies, including key components from the Blair Athol, Caol Ila, Glenkinchie, Dufftown, and Inchgower distilleries. These whiskies are matured in selected oak casks to achieve the brand's signature profile—a rich, nutty flavor with notes of spicy ginger cake and a subtle smoky finish.

Following its long status as a public company and later inclusion in the United Distillers group, Bell's is now owned by Diageo plc, one of the world's largest producers of spirits and beers. The brand remains deeply rooted in its Scottish heritage, with its bottling typically carried out at Diageo's Shieldhall plant in Glasgow.
