Toblerone is a renowned Swiss chocolate brand, famous for its distinctive triangular shape and unique blend of milk chocolate, honey, and almond nougat. The brand was created by Theodor Tobler in 1908, combining his family name with the Italian word 'torrone' (nougat). Over the years, Toblerone has become an iconic symbol of Swiss chocolate craftsmanship.
In 2016, Mondelez International, a multinational confectionery, food, and beverage company headquartered in the United States, acquired Toblerone. Mondelez's diverse portfolio includes other well-known brands such as Oreo, Cadbury, and Ritz.
Toblerone's manufacturing has expanded beyond Switzerland. While larger 100-gram bars continue to be produced in Bern, Switzerland, smaller 35- and 50-gram bars are now produced in Bratislava, Slovakia. This shift was implemented to comply with Switzerland's 'Swissness' laws, which require that at least 80% of raw materials and essential production processes be based in Switzerland for a product to use Swiss symbols. As a result, the packaging of Toblerone has been updated to reflect this change, removing images of the Matterhorn mountain and the Swiss flag to adhere to these regulations.
Despite the production changes, Toblerone maintains its commitment to quality, using high-quality ingredients and authentic Swiss craftsmanship to deliver a distinctive chocolate experience loved by consumers worldwide.
