Moleskine is an Italian brand known for its high-quality notebooks, planners, and other stationery products. The brand was established in 1997 by the Milanese publisher Modo & Modo S.p.A., led by Maria Sebregondi, who sought to revive the traditional black notebooks favored by artists and writers such as Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and Ernest Hemingway. The name 'Moleskine' was inspired by the term used by travel writer Bruce Chatwin to describe the notebooks he used during his travels.

In 2006, facing increased demand, Modo & Modo S.p.A. was acquired by the French investment fund Société Générale Capital, and the company was renamed Moleskine S.r.l. The brand expanded its product line to include journals, bags, writing instruments, and reading accessories, and its products became available in numerous countries worldwide.

In 2016, the Belgian multinational company D'Ieteren Group acquired a 41% stake in Moleskine, eventually obtaining full control and delisting the company from the Milan Stock Exchange. D'Ieteren Group is headquartered in Belgium and operates in various sectors, including automotive distribution and vehicle glass repair.

Moleskine's products are designed in Italy and manufactured in multiple countries, including China, Vietnam, Turkey, and Ecuador. The company emphasizes sustainability and environmental responsibility, ensuring that all products comply with international standards and certifications, such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for responsible forest management. Moleskine's commitment to quality and design has made it a preferred choice for creatives and professionals seeking reliable and stylish stationery.
