Wegovy

Wegovy is a prescription medication developed by Novo Nordisk A/S, a Danish pharmaceutical company, for chronic weight management in adults. The active ingredient in Wegovy is semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist also used in Novo Nordisk's diabetes medications, Ozempic and Rybelsus. Wegovy was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in June 2021 for long-term weight management. The drug is primarily manufactured in Denmark, with the active pharmaceutical ingredient produced at Novo Nordisk's facilities in Kalundborg and Hillerød. The final product is assembled in various locations, including the United States, to meet global demand. As of January 2026, Novo Nordisk continues to be the sole manufacturer and owner of the Wegovy brand, with no known subsidiaries involved in its production or distribution.
