Hakle is a German brand of toilet tissue and kitchen towels, established in 1928 by Hans Klenk in Ludwigsburg, Germany. The name 'Hakle' is derived from the initials of the founder's first and last names. Over the years, Hakle has undergone several changes in ownership. In 1999, it was acquired by Kimberly-Clark Corporation, a global leader in personal care and hygiene products. In 2013, the brand was sold to Palero Capital, a private equity firm, and later to Crosslantic and other investors. In 2019, Hakle GmbH was fully acquired by Hakle Holding GmbH, which was equally owned by Crosslantic Fund I GmbH & Co KG and Jung.Inv GmbH. Facing financial difficulties, Hakle GmbH filed for insolvency in September 2022. To facilitate the company's restructuring, the Hakle brand and other related brands were sold to Sofidel S.p.A., an Italian multinational paper manufacturer, in May 2023. This acquisition allowed Sofidel to strengthen its position in the German market for toilet tissue and kitchen towels and enter the moist toilet tissue segment. The production facility in Düsseldorf-Reisholz continues to operate under new management, ensuring the ongoing production of Hakle products.
