Maybelline New York is a leading cosmetics brand founded in 1915 by pharmacist Thomas Lyle Williams in Chicago, Illinois. The brand's inception was inspired by Williams' sister, Mabel, who applied a mixture of Vaseline and coal dust to her eyelashes to enhance their appearance. Observing this, Williams created a product called 'Lash-Brow-Ine' and named the company 'Maybelline' by combining 'Mabel' and 'Vaseline'.

In 1967, Maybelline was acquired by Plough Inc., which later became Schering-Plough. The company's headquarters moved from Chicago to Memphis, Tennessee. In 1990, Schering-Plough sold Maybelline to the New York investment firm Wasserstein Perella & Co. The brand's headquarters relocated to New York City in 1996 after being acquired by the French cosmetics giant L'Oréal S.A. This acquisition expanded Maybelline's global reach, making it the number one cosmetic brand worldwide, available in over 120 countries.

Today, Maybelline New York continues to offer a diverse range of products, including mascaras, eye shadows, eyeliners, concealers, lip colors, and blushes, catering to a wide array of beauty needs and preferences.
