Krombacher Pils is one of the best-selling beer brands in Germany, known for its distinct golden color and fine bitter taste. The brand originated in various small brewing activities in the town of Krombach, North Rhine-Westphalia, before being formally consolidated in the 19th century. To this day, the brewery emphasizes its use of fresh spring water from the local 'Felsquellwasser' mountain sources, which is a key part of its branding and identity.
Technically, Krombacher remains a family-owned enterprise, managed by the Schadeberg family for generations. Unlike many other major German beverage brands that have been acquired by multinational conglomerates, Krombacher has maintained its independence. Its manufacturing is centralized at the original location in Kreuztal-Krombach to maintain quality standards and regional authenticity.
