Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier

Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier is produced by the Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan, which is widely recognized as the oldest continuously operating brewery in the world. Its origins date back to a Benedictine monastery founded in 725 by Saint Corbinian in Freising, Bavaria. Official brewing rights were granted to the monastery in 1040, marking the formal birth of the brewery. Throughout its long history, the brewery has survived numerous fires, plagues, and wars, consistently rebuilding on the same hill in Freising.

In 1803, during the secularization of Bavaria, the monastery was dissolved, and the brewery's ownership transitioned to the Bavarian state. Since then, it has operated as a state-owned enterprise, currently overseen by the Bavarian Ministry of Science and the Arts. The brewery is deeply integrated with the Technical University of Munich (TUM), specifically its brewing science department, which uses the facility as a center for research and education. This unique relationship combines nearly a millennium of tradition with modern brewing technology, ensuring that its products like the Hefeweissbier remain global benchmarks for quality and adherence to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516.
