Bowers & Wilkins, commonly known as B&W, is a British company specializing in high-fidelity audio equipment, particularly loudspeakers. Founded in 1966 by John Bowers and Roy Wilkins in Worthing, West Sussex, England, the company has a rich history of innovation in audio technology. Over the years, B&W has expanded its product range to include wireless speakers and headphones, maintaining a strong presence in the premium audio market.
In October 2020, Bowers & Wilkins was acquired by Sound United LLC, a holding company that owns several other audio brands. In 2022, Sound United was acquired by Masimo, a U.S.-based medical technology company. Subsequently, in May 2025, Masimo announced the sale of its consumer audio division, including Bowers & Wilkins, to Harman International Industries, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics. This acquisition marked a significant shift in the ownership structure of Bowers & Wilkins, integrating it into a global conglomerate specializing in connected products for various industries.
Regarding manufacturing, Bowers & Wilkins has diversified its production across multiple countries. While the company's research, design, and engineering operations remain based in Worthing, West Sussex, UK, certain product lines are manufactured in China. This strategic approach allows B&W to leverage global manufacturing capabilities while maintaining its commitment to quality and innovation in audio technology.
