Schweppes soft drink

Schweppes is one of the world's oldest soft drink brands, founded in 1783 by Jacob Schweppe in Geneva, Switzerland. The brand is famous for inventing the first industrial process to manufacture carbonated mineral water and later for its iconic Tonic Water and Ginger Ale.

In Denmark, Schweppes products are produced and distributed under a long-standing licensing agreement. As indicated on the label, the product is bottled by Carlsberg Danmark A/S with permission from Schweppes International Limited. This licensing model is a result of the complex global ownership of the Schweppes brand, which was split into regional territories following various corporate acquisitions and demergers over the decades.

While the brand was originally Swiss-British, the ultimate ownership of the brand rights in Denmark and 21 other European countries belongs to the Japanese conglomerate Suntory Group. Suntory acquired these rights through its subsidiary Orangina Schweppes (now Suntory Beverage & Food Europe) in 2009. Meanwhile, other global beverage giants like Keurig Dr Pepper and The Coca-Cola Company own the brand rights in different parts of the world.
