Foodora is an online food delivery platform that was founded in Munich, Germany, in 2014 under the name Volo GmbH. Shortly after its inception, the company rebranded to Foodora. In September 2015, Delivery Hero SE, a global leader in the online food delivery industry headquartered in Berlin, Germany, acquired Foodora. This acquisition allowed Foodora to expand its services across Europe, including Austria, Czechia, Finland, Hungary, Norway, and Sweden. Foodora specializes in rapid on-demand delivery of meals from restaurants and groceries via a mobile app and a network of riders. The company has emphasized quick commerce, partnering with thousands of restaurants and retailers to enable fast fulfillment, often within minutes for select items. Foodora operates as a subsidiary of Delivery Hero SE, with local offices and operations in the aforementioned countries. The platform has achieved notable market penetration in Scandinavia and Central Europe, with expansions driven by Delivery Hero's global resources. However, Foodora has faced persistent labor disputes centered on rider pay, scheduling control, and classification as independent contractors rather than employees.
