Hawesta is a German brand specializing in fish conserves, particularly known for their Heringsfilets in Tomaten-Creme (herring fillets in tomato cream). The company was founded in 1909 by Hans and Maria Westphal in Lübeck, Germany. Over the years, Hawesta has been recognized for its commitment to quality and traditional methods in fish processing. In 2009, the company was acquired by Rügen Fisch AG, a German seafood company. In 2016, Thai Union Group PCL, a leading Thai seafood producer, acquired a majority stake in Rügen Fisch, making Hawesta a subsidiary of Thai Union. The production facility in Lübeck-Schlutup was closed in April 2023, and operations were moved to Sassnitz, Germany. Despite the relocation, Hawesta continues to produce its products primarily in Germany, with some production also taking place in other locations. The brand remains a significant player in the German market for fish conserves, offering a variety of products that combine traditional recipes with modern flavors.
