Buko (marketed as Arla Buko) is a Danish cream-cheese brand that dates back to the early 20th century. The original Buko processed-cheese business began in Copenhagen in 1932 and the cream-cheese (flødeost) variants were added mid-century. Buko is positioned as a soft, ultra-spreadable cream cheese sold in multiple flavours and formats.
Production is primarily based in Denmark, reflecting the brand's Danish origin, but Arla manufactures Buko cream-cheese products in other Arla production sites to serve international markets. Product formats range from retail tubs (e.g., 200–300 g) to larger professional sizes used by foodservice.
The Buko brand is owned by Arla Foods amba, a Denmark-headquartered dairy cooperative owned by member dairy farmers. Arla operates through regional subsidiaries and business units (such as Arla Foods Deutschland and Arla Pro) that handle local production, marketing and distribution. As of 2026, Arla Foods amba remains the ultimate owner of the Buko brand.
Buko is commonly used as a bread spread, dip base or ingredient for sauces and baking. Packaging typically carries both the Buko name and the Arla logo, reflecting the brand's integration into the Arla portfolio.
