Levi's® traces to Levi Strauss, a Bavarian immigrant who founded Levi Strauss & Co. in San Francisco in 1853. In partnership with tailor Jacob Davis the company produced the first riveted denim work pants (patented in 1873), launching what became the modern blue jean.
Levi's apparel is manufactured in multiple countries around the world rather than a single origin. The company sources finished goods through a global supplier network across Asia and Latin America and maintains limited production and finishing capacity in other regions. This global manufacturing footprint supports seasonal lines, regional assortments, and large-scale distribution to more than 100 countries.
The Levi's brand was created by Levi Strauss & Co., and that same company remains the brand’s ultimate owner. Headquartered in San Francisco, Levi Strauss & Co. is a major international apparel firm with direct retail operations, wholesale partners, and licensed lines (including associated brands such as Dockers® and others). As of 2026, Levi Strauss & Co. is the owning company and operates globally under that corporate identity.
