Kellogg's began in Battle Creek, Michigan, United States, when W.K. Kellogg founded the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company in 1906. The brand grew around iconic breakfast cereals (Corn Flakes, Frosted Flakes, Rice Krispies, Froot Loops, Special K, etc.) and was long marketed globally under the Kellogg Company umbrella.
In October 2023 the historic Kellogg Company completed a strategic separation that produced two independent businesses: WK Kellogg Co (housing the North American cereal portfolio and the Kellogg's brand in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean) and Kellanova (holding global snacking, international cereal and other product lines). Following that split, the ownership landscape changed again in 2025: Ferrero completed the acquisition of WK Kellogg Co (closing in September 2025) and Mars, Incorporated completed the acquisition of Kellanova (closing in December 2025). As a result, Kellogg's-branded cereal assets are effectively split by geography — Ferrero controls the North American cereal portfolio, while Mars controls the international Kellogg/Kellanova portfolio and snacking businesses.
Kellogg's products are manufactured in multiple countries across North America, Europe, and other regions. Production is regionally organized — North American cereal plants and distribution networks were part of WK Kellogg Co (now Ferrero-owned), while Kellanova’s international plants and supply chains (now part of Mars Snacking) produce Kellogg’s-branded products for markets outside North America. Therefore manufacturing should be treated as global (Multiple countries).
