TUC is a savory baked cracker brand first developed in Belgium in 1958 by the Parein family biscuit company. The product is an octagonal, lightly salted baked cracker positioned as a savoury snack and aperitif accompaniment.
The TUC recipe and brand originated in Belgium in the late 1950s. The brand later became associated with the French LU biscuit family through corporate acquisitions and was subsequently transferred through later food-industry consolidations that ultimately placed the brand under the ownership of Mondelēz International.
TUC crackers are manufactured in multiple countries. Europe—particularly Belgium—has historically been a primary production hub for the brand (large LU/Mondelēz biscuit facilities serve many markets), but production also takes place under license or via regional manufacturing partners in other countries depending on market and distribution needs. As a result, packaging for TUC sold in different countries may list different local manufacturing sites.
Mondelēz International is the ultimate owner of the TUC brand in many global markets and manages the LU portfolio. However, regional licensing and production agreements are common: in several markets TUC products are produced or distributed under license by companies such as Jacob Fruitfield (part of Valeo Foods) or marketed via local subsidiaries and distributors. These licensing arrangements mean that while Mondelēz is the global brand owner in most regions, the on-package manufacturer and distributor can differ by country.
If you need the specific country of manufacture for a particular pack of TUC (for example for regulatory, import, or origin-tracking reasons), check the ‘Made in’ / manufacturer address printed on that pack — production site varies by market and by production run.
