HP (originally Hewlett-Packard) was founded in 1939 in the United States by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard. The brand grew from instrumentation and engineering products into a global information-technology company known for consumer and business personal computers, printers, and related services.
Manufacturing and assembly for HP-branded personal computers occur in multiple countries across Asia, the Americas, and Europe through a combination of HP-owned facilities and contract manufacturers. Because HP uses global suppliers and regional assembly partners, production is distributed internationally rather than limited to a single country.
In 2015 the original Hewlett-Packard Company split into two publicly traded entities: HP Inc., which retained the personal-computing and printing businesses, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which focuses on enterprise hardware and services. The HP consumer/commercial PC brand is owned and managed by HP Inc., an American company headquartered in the United States. Distribution is carried out worldwide via HP Inc.’s regional subsidiaries and authorized channel partners.
