Douwe Egberts coffee

Douwe Egberts is an iconic coffee brand with a heritage dating back to 1753, when Egbert Douwes opened a small grocery shop called "De Witte Os" in Joure, Netherlands. Over the centuries, it evolved from a local merchant into a global leader in the coffee industry. While the brand remains deeply rooted in Dutch culture and maintains major production facilities in the Netherlands, its products are manufactured in several countries to support its vast international distribution network.

Ownership of the brand has seen several transitions. After decades of growth as a family-owned business, it was acquired by the American Sara Lee Corporation in 1978. In the 2010s, it underwent further restructuring, merging with other giants to form Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE) and later JDE Peet's. As of August 2025, a landmark acquisition was announced where the American beverage company Keurig Dr Pepper acquired JDE Peet's, bringing the brand under American ownership once again as part of a strategic plan to create a global coffee powerhouse.
