Kerrygold extra is a spreadable mixed‑fat product combining original Irish butter with rapeseed oil (sold in variants such as 'ungesalzen' / unsalted and 'gesalzen' / salted). The Kerrygold name was developed in Ireland under the Irish Dairy Board (An Bord Bainne) in the early 1960s to market premium Irish grass‑fed dairy. Today the Kerrygold brand is managed and owned by Ornua Co‑operative Limited (the trading name formerly used by the Irish Dairy Board), a Dublin‑based co‑operative that represents Irish dairy producer co‑ops.

Manufacture and sourcing: Kerrygold products are produced from Irish weidemilch (grass‑fed milk) supplied by Irish dairy farmers. Large-scale butter production and packing for Kerrygold occurs at Ornua’s facilities (for example the Mitchelstown/Kerrygold Park site in County Cork), so the product is primarily manufactured and packed in Ireland. For some markets and pack formats, regional packing or distribution may occur via Ornua’s local subsidiaries or partner facilities.

Ownership and distribution: The brand’s ultimate owner is Ornua Co‑operative Limited (Ireland), which operates international sales and marketing arms (e.g., Ornua Foods International) and country subsidiaries such as Ornua Deutschland GmbH for the German market and Ornua North America for the U.S. market. Ornua is a cooperative business owned and supplied by a network of Irish dairy co‑operatives and farmers, and it manages global production capacity as well as regional packing and distribution arrangements to serve local markets.
