A flapjack is a traditional British baked oat bar made from rolled oats, butter (or a fat), sugar (or syrup), and often additional flavorings or inclusions (e.g., dried fruit, chocolate). It is typically cut into bars or squares after baking and sold as a snack or confectionery item.
The flapjack as a distinct oat-based traybake originates in the United Kingdom. It is a regional/traditional recipe rather than a single-company invention, so there is no single founding company to attribute as the brand origin.
Flapjacks are produced by home bakers, small-scale artisan bakeries, and large commercial food manufacturers. Because the recipe is generic and widely produced, manufacturing occurs in multiple countries across Europe, North America, and elsewhere wherever similar snack-bakery products are made.
"Flapjack" describes the product type rather than a proprietary brand. Individual companies produce and sell flapjacks under their own brand names; the flapjack itself is not owned by a single corporate entity. Therefore, there is no ultimate owner company for the generic product—ownership applies at the individual brand/product SKU level.
