Alpia is a historic German chocolate brand created in 1906 by the Stollwerck company. The brand became known for its pink-wrapped chocolate tablets and later expanded into a range of chocolate bars and chocolate-covered snacks (e.g., chocolate-coated pretzels, chocolate bites and filled bars).
Today Alpia products are manufactured within the production network of the Baronie / Sweet Products group. Many Alpia items sold in retail list Germany as the country of manufacture, and the brand’s chocolate is produced primarily in German facilities (legacy Stollwerck sites and related plants). The Baronie / Sweet Products group operates multiple factories across Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland, so Alpia production can also take place in those locations depending on SKU and market — hence production is primarily in Germany but also occurs in other countries within the group’s network.
Alpia originated under Stollwerck (a German chocolate maker). In the 2000s the Stollwerck consumer business passed through ownership changes and in 2011 Barry Callebaut sold its Stollwerck/consumer activities; the Alpia brand is now part of the portfolio controlled by the Belgian Sweet Products / Baronie Group. Sweet Products (Baronie) is a family-owned Belgian confectionery group that manages brand operations, manufacturing sites and distribution for Alpia and other acquired brands.
