Muffins (sometimes spelled "muffim" in some languages) are a category of single‑serve quick breads produced worldwide. The term covers two common lines: the English muffin (a flat, yeast‑leavened griddle bread with origins in the United Kingdom) and the American‑style muffin (a sweeter, cake‑like quick bread that became popular in the United States). Both varieties are prepared and sold by small artisan bakeries, large commercial bakeries, cafés, and packaged food manufacturers.
Muffins are manufactured in many countries. Small bakeries produce fresh, made‑to‑order muffins locally, while large food manufacturers and supermarket bakeries produce packaged muffins at industrial scale for national and international distribution. Because production is geographically widespread and performed by many independent businesses and brands, the manufacturing country is best described as "Multiple countries." Packaged muffin products will list a specific production location on their packaging.
Muffins as a product category are not owned by a single brand or company. Individual muffin brands (for example, supermarket own‑brands, bakery chains, or packaged snack brands) are owned by their respective companies, but the muffin itself remains a generic baked good. The original concept comes from traditional bakers rather than a single corporate founder, and today the category is produced by a large number of companies headquartered in different countries.
