Johnnie Walker is a historic Scotch whisky brand that originated in Kilmarnock, Scotland, where John Walker started blending whiskies in the early 19th century. The brand became known as John Walker & Sons as the business expanded under his family. Johnnie Walker is primarily a blended Scotch whisky brand — its products are blended from malt and grain whiskies distilled and matured in Scotland, and the production and blending processes occur in Scotland in accordance with Scotch whisky regulations.
Today the Johnnie Walker brand is owned by Diageo plc, a United Kingdom–headquartered multinational alcoholic beverages company. Diageo manages the brand globally and distributes Johnnie Walker through its regional subsidiaries and local distribution partners in different markets. While packaging and bottling occasionally occur in local markets for some variants or specific regional bottlings, the whisky itself is produced and matured in Scotland, making Scotland the primary manufacturing country of origin.
Johnnie Walker’s long history, Scottish production base, and ownership by a global drinks conglomerate have together made it one of the world’s best-known blended Scotch whisky brands.
